WGTE News Crew

Each year we select a handful of responsible Fifth Graders to report the daily announcements on the Grovetown Morning News Show (WGTE). Most of the candidates for the news crew are chosen at the end of the previous school year when the students are still in the fourth grade. Students new to GTE their fifth grade year may be able to fill an available slot during the second semester if space allows, and they demonstrate the criteria below:

  • Having no front office referrals for behavior in their fourth or fifth grade years
  • Demonstrating excellent behavior by modeling the Jaguar Way in all areas of the building
  • Keeping up with school work and assignments: earning an A/B average
  • Getting along well with others
  • Having the ability to read aloud quickly and with a loud voice advanced vocabulary words
  • Having the desire to help others in the Learning Commons

We assign ten new crew members per quarter (occasionally some are asked to return if we have availability). Our News Crew members rotate days that they appear on the show, and must also be willing to assist in all areas of the Learning Commons. We look for upbeat, well-behaved students who have a positive, willing attitude; and who require little supervision, to fulfill these roles.
